Looked at every device around. Basically two types, teeth & no teeth. Read all the reviews and blogs, +'s & -'s. Nothing really out there on the Goblin except for the CAMP literature. I odered one. Came in a couple of days from Omniprogear which was great. Using the Petzl self-belay article as a guideline, two rope method. Goblin on one rope and the new Rescucender on the other. Goblin being the primary. Works great on an old 9.8 Petzyl rope I am using. The rope actually measures 10 but whatever. Rope does need a little weight on it when you start but it runs up and down nicely otherwise. If I let go, it stops me in less than a foot of rope slide or so. Rope stretch was more than this. I don't know about slicker ropes or wet or icy. (i am primarily an ice climber and i got it too late for this season) Kind of heavy and seems very well made. Just like i want. I am not saying this is perfectly safe but it seems safe enough to me with the backup. Caveat emptor.
